December’s Blessing: A Sacred Journey of Giving and Receiving

December is a month of profound potential. As the world quiets and turns inward, we have the opportunity to do the same—to listen more deeply, to honor our needs, to release what weighs us down, and to open to the gifts that life wants to offer us.
Energy Medicine Yoga gives us practical, embodied tools to navigate this journey. Through movement, breathwork, and techniques that work directly with our energy systems, we can shift patterns, restore balance, and align ourselves with the natural rhythms that support our wellbeing.
Whether you’re a longtime practitioner or new to Energy Medicine Yoga, these five weeks offer something essential: a chance to come home to yourself, to find your balance between giving and receiving.
The Heart of the Practice: Five Weeks of Transformation
December 3 – Explore the Aspects of Yin and Yang
We begin our journey by diving into one of life’s most fundamental truths: we are made of opposites. Yin and yang, darkness and light, stillness and movement, receptivity and expression—these aren’t contradictions but complementary forces that create balance within us.
In this first week, we’ll use Energy Medicine techniques and yoga postures to feel into both aspects of our nature. Where have we been living too much in one energy? Are we constantly giving, doing, and pushing forward (yang), or have we perhaps withdrawn too far into passivity and rest (yin)? Neither is wrong, but both are needed.
Through our practice, we’ll learn to recognize these energies in our bodies, our breath, and our daily lives. We’ll explore how honoring both allows us to move through the world with greater ease and wisdom.
December 10 – Giving Starts at Home
There’s a profound truth we often forget in our rush to care for others: we cannot pour from an empty cup. The second week of our practice brings us home to ourselves, asking a crucial question: How well are we nourishing our own energy, our own spirit, our own needs?
Giving that starts at home isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When we tend to ourselves with the same care we offer others, we create a sustainable foundation for genuine generosity. Our practice this week will focus on self-nourishing techniques, helping you identify where you may be depleting yourself and offering tools to replenish your own well.
We’ll work with Energy Medicine practices that help us fill our reserves, set healthy boundaries, and recognize that self-care is actually a prerequisite for being fully present with others. This week is about permission—permission to rest, to receive, to say no, and to honor your own needs as sacred.
December 17 – Giving & Receiving in the Light of the Solstice
The Winter Solstice on December 21 marks a powerful turning point—the longest night of the year, followed by the gradual return of the light. This natural phenomenon offers us a profound metaphor for our own cycles of darkness and illumination.
In this week’s practice, we honor both the darkness that has allowed us to rest, reflect, and go inward, and the emerging light that calls us forward with renewed clarity and purpose. The solstice teaches us that both are necessary—we need the fallow time, the quiet, the unknown, just as much as we need growth, brightness, and action.
Our Energy Medicine Yoga practice will help us attune to this powerful transition, working with meridians and chakras that connect us to the rhythms of nature. We’ll explore how to receive the gifts that darkness offers while also preparing to meet the returning light with open hearts.
December 24 – Giving and Receiving Love
As we arrive at the heart of the holiday season, we turn our attention to what matters most: love. But not love as an obligation or performance—love in its purest, most authentic form.
This week invites us to explore love as both a giving and a receiving. So often, we’re comfortable offering love but struggle to truly receive it. We deflect compliments, minimize our worthiness, or keep our hearts guarded against the vulnerability that comes with being truly seen and cherished.
Our practice will create space for both—for expressing love freely and for opening ourselves to receive love without condition, without needing to earn it, without immediately giving something back. We’ll work with heart-centered Energy Medicine techniques that help dissolve the barriers we’ve built and allow us to experience the full circulation of love in our lives.
This is a practice in softening, in trusting, and in recognizing that we are worthy of love simply because we exist.
December 31 – Final Transformation: Year of the Snake
As we close out the year, we reflect on the powerful transformation energy of the Year of the Snake. According to the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Snake is considered a time when hard work comes to fruition and new beginnings emerge. Just as snakes shed their skin and grow, the Snake year is imbued with the symbolism of “rebirth and renewal.” It is seen as a turning point, encouraging people to embrace change and embark on new challenges with positivity.
This final class of the year asks you to reflect on what we’ve learned over the past year– discerning what we need to carry forward and what we must leave behind. This isn’t about forcing or striving—it’s about allowing the natural process of release and renewal.
We’ll work with practices that help us clear stagnant energy, release old patterns, and create spaciousness for what wants to emerge. The snake teaches us that transformation isn’t always dramatic—sometimes it’s simply the quiet wisdom of knowing when to let go and trusting that we’ll find what we need on the path ahead.
