Radiant Joy: A July Energy Medicine Yoga Journey

If you’ve been with me in class lately, you know June was all about the Fire Element, where we explored the organs of Fire (heart and small intestine), the systems of Fire (our inner and outer protectors), and the emotions of Fire (anxiety or inspiration and joy). And here’s the truth: we’re not leaving the Fire Element behind in July. We’re diving straight into its very best gift: joy itself.
Because joy, as anyone who’s practiced Energy Medicine with me knows, isn’t just a feeling that shows up when life is going well. It’s something we can actually locate in the body, spark on purpose, and sustain through devoted practice. That’s exactly what this month is about.
This July series is called Radiant Joy, and it moves through five classes with a beautiful arc: we’ll spark joy, locate where it lives in the body, learn to sustain it through practice, learn to regulate it so it doesn’t tip into burnout, and finally land in something steady — joy that’s grounded rather than fleeting. It’s joy that exists, even in the midst of pain. Here’s what each week holds.
Week 1: Radiant Circuits We open with one of my favorite tools from Eden Energy Medicine: the Radiant Circuits. These are the body’s pathways of joy, vitality, harmony, and spiritual connection — distinct from the meridians, and just as essential. Where meridians keep energy flowing in an orderly way, the Radiant Circuits move energy wherever it’s needed most, in service of restoring balance and aliveness. This class is our spark — we’ll work directly with these circuits to wake up the body’s own capacity for joy, right from the very first class.
Week 2: Pick a Chakra Once we’ve sparked that radiant energy, we go looking for where it actually lives. This class is an exploration of the chakras — you’ll be invited to notice which energy center feels most alive, most asking for attention, in your own body that day. We’ll likely spend extra time with the Heart, since it’s so closely tied to Fire and joy, but the real teaching here is learning to listen inward and trust what you find, rather than following a prescribed map.
Week 3: The Importance of Daily Practice Joy that lasts isn’t an accident — it’s cultivated. This class is about devotion: showing up for your practice (on the mat and off) as the very thing that keeps your inner flame burning steadily, rather than flickering in and out depending on your mood or circumstances. We’ll talk about tapas, the yogic concept of disciplined, purifying inner fire, and explore how a daily practice — even five minutes — becomes its own Radiant Circuit, generating energy simply by being consistent.
Week 4: Bring Down the Flame Here’s where we pause and tend the fire we’ve been building. Joy and vitality are wonderful, but unchecked Fire can tip into agitation, overstimulation, that wired and restless feeling. This class is about skillful regulation — using breath, grounding postures, and some gentle Energy Medicine techniques to bring the flame down to a manageable, sustainable glow. Think of it as essential maintenance for anyone who tends to run hot, whether that’s energetically, emotionally, or both.
Week 5: Grounded Joy We close the series by bringing it all together. This is joy with roots — not the fleeting, ungrounded high of pure excitement, but something steadier and more enduring because it’s anchored in the body. We’ll move through a fuller practice that touches on everything we’ve explored — the spark of the Radiant Circuits, the listening of the chakras, the devotion of daily practice, the wisdom of regulation — and land somewhere settled, warm, and sustainable. It’s a beautiful note to end the month on, and it sets us up perfectly for August, when we’ll shift into the grounded, nourishing energy of the Earth Element.
My hope for this series is that you leave each class not just having talked about joy, but having actually felt it move through your body — sparked, located, sustained, regulated, and grounded. That’s the real teaching of Energy Medicine: joy isn’t something that happens to us. It’s something we can cultivate, on purpose, again and again.
