Walking with Love: The Gift of Earth Element

The Summer Solstice on June 20th has me focused on the energy of the earth underneath our feet and the energy of love that emanates from our hearts. Between the power of the earth (grounding, strengthening, and solid) and the power of the heart (loving, kind, and compassionate), you can do just about anything. All you have to do is tap into them and let them do their work.

So how do you tap into them? Energy Medicine and Energy Medicine Yoga both have powerful tools you can use to tap into earth energy and heart energy. For instance, standing or walking on the earth with your bare feet is extremely powerful and grounding. Walking barefoot can have many benefits, including:

  • Stress reduction. Some say that walking barefoot can reduce stress and boost your immune system by connecting with the earth’s negative charge and becoming more neutral.
  • Better sleep. Walking barefoot on grass in the morning or at night can help you feel less anxious and get better sleep.
  • Improved circulation. Walking barefoot can stimulate blood circulation in your feet and veins, which can improve your cardiovascular system.
  • Improved foot mechanics. Walking barefoot can help restore your natural gait and improve your foot position when it hits the ground. This can also improve your posture and make your entire body feel better.
  • Other benefits. Walking barefoot can also help with inflammation, balance, and mindfulness.

Tapping into your heart can help you access your body’s energy and release emotional blocks, which can lead to feelings of increased energy and vitality. Body tapping is an ancient practice that’s used in many different modalities, including Qi Gong, Tai Chi, martial arts, massage, Energy Medicine, and modern Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). EFT tapping is said to help you access your body’s energy and send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. By stimulating meridian points, EFT tapping may reduce stress or negative emotions, restoring balance to your energy. Some say that tapping can also help you open up sensations in your chest, allowing more love, energy, and joy to flow into your life and relationships. To read more about tapping, I’d highly suggest the new book, Tapping: Self-Healing with the Transformative Power of Energy Psychology, by David Feinstein Ph.D. & Donna Eden.

You can also remind yourself that you are made of love, simply by tracing hearts over your chest (or anywhere else for that matter). The energy of love is palpable by simply tracing your heart or placing your hands over your heart, closing your eyes, and connecting with your innermost being. When I tap into the energy of my heart, I get my wisest messages and answers. Give it a try and see what you discover.

In Energy Medicine (based on the ancient Chinese elements), Earth element is associated with the changing of the seasons—the Solstices and the Equinoxes. Earth is also associated with the organs of Stomach and the Spleen. Stomach is where you get most of your grounding energy. And spleen is the mother of all the meridians and sends energy to the organs that need it. It is considered the “mother” of all of the organs. Spleen also assimilates and integrates all your food, drink, emotions, thoughts, and experiences.  Between Stomach and Spleen, there is a lot of activity going on that brings your body, heart, and mind into balance. They have really big jobs!

In celebration of the Earth element, here is my lineup for June in my Energy Medicine Yoga classes (5:30 p.m. Central Time online or by recording).
